Triathlon

A triathlon is a multi-sport endurance event where a single athlete completes swimming, cycling, and running in sequential order:

Swim → Transition 1 → Cycling → Transition 2 → Running

There are various formats based on distance. In Asian Games, National Games and Olympic Games, the Sprint Distance or Olympic Distance is usually used.

Preparation

Before the event, properly set up your Transition area:

  • Tri-suit
  • Bib holder
  • Swimming Goggles & Cap
  • Towel
  • Cycle
  • Helmet
  • Cycling shoes
  • Running shoes
  • Water Bottle
  • Timing chip

For some competitions, a box is provided. Otherwise arrange neatly on the floor.

Transition Setup

Swimming

Swimming

  • Warm up before start
  • Stand behind start line
  • Follow route instructions
  • Do not cross before whistle
  • Start in batches
  • Timing starts after crossing start line

Transition 1

  • Run to Transition area
  • Remove goggles & cap
  • Wear bib (back side)
  • Wear helmet before touching cycle
  • Drink water if needed
  • Run till mounting line
  • Mount AFTER the line
Transition 1

Cycling

Cycling → Transition 2 → Run

  • Dismount before dismount line
  • Remove legs from shoes before dismount
  • Run to rack area
  • Keep cycle neatly (Bib space)
  • Do not disturb other cycles
  • Remove helmet only after racking
  • Wear running shoes
  • Move bib to front
  • Start running & finish strong 😊
